Weekend Anchor / Reporter

WLNE-TV/ABC6 in downtown Providence, R.I., is looking for a weekend anchor/reporter. The candidate must have a passion for reporting and a strong news judgement. The perfect candidate has a compelling live presence and ability to connect with viewers.

This news anchor/reporter position will present breaking news and top stories during weekend newscasts and report during the weekdays. This role requires working closely with producers to stack and write weekend evening newscasts. The person who fills this role will also have the chance to fill-in as anchor during weekday broadcasts.

Responsibilities:

--Co-produce with weekend producers and write day-of news content for newscasts.

--Monitor, write, and update breaking news throughout newscasts.

--Assist in writing/editing scripts to ensure clarity and accuracy.

--Deliver news on camera in a professional manner.

--Ability to ad-lib with co-anchors.

--Shoot, write, edit news stories during the weekday reporting shifts.

--Pitch original stories during daily editorial meetings.

--Build relationships and contacts in the area.

--Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

--Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines throughout the day.

--Organized and detailed-oriented.

--Strong collaboration and communications skills.

--Knowledge of a working newsroom.

--Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a similar field preferred.

--Previous on-air experience.

--A team player who is willing to jump in and assist when needed.
