About the Show: La Voz con Mariel Fiori
Knowledge is power. La Voz con Mariel Fiori is an inspirational daily Spanish language show that serves the local Spanish language communities with information that can rarely be found elsewhere. With a focus on community journalism and solutions journalism, our area is Kingston and the Mid-Hudson Valley, NY. Every day we tell the stories of the people who choose this area to live and work. “As a journalist, my mission and responsibility is to inform, educate and entertain our audience, with a local focus and with high quality content, including interviews, commentary, current events, columnists and music. In addition, by doing so, we break the stereotypes around Latinos” says Fiori, Host and Executive Producer of the show. La Voz con Mariel Fiori strives to be a beacon of information for a growing, yet misrepresented and underrepresented community.
Show format:
live M-F 10-11am. Magazine style, there are two general topics devoted to each day of the show. Monday is about business and wellbeing; Tuesday is about health and politics; Wednesday is about education and family; Thursday is about entertainment and the environment; and Friday is about immigration and culture. Every week, an average of 15 guests are interviewed live (broadcast on WKNY and live streamed on Facebook) on the show on a variety of newsworthy current events relating to the topics of the day.
Role Overview
The Radio Journalist Producer will create content highlighting local issues, manage show logistics, and engage with the audience. The successful Producer is a flexible and effective bilingual (Spanish English) communicator, likes to work collaboratively, and feels a strong commitment to the mission of La Voz con Mariel Fiori and Radio Kingston. The person in this role is responsible for the content,from concept to execution, including board operation.
Responsibilities include
- Under the guidance of and in consultation with the Host, and Executive Producer, the Radio Journalist Producer will manage the show calendar, book and pre-interview guests, research topics, and aid in creating digital and social media content in support of the show. Guests booking includes checking for correct name spelling, position, photo, and topics or questions to discuss with host
- In collaboration with host, will generate and research ideas for segments of the show, and source contributors and interviewees
- Select music when needed: will choose music for the show's identity, target audience, and the program itself
- Learn broadcast console and remote recorder operation
- Will actively seek locations for remote broadcasts, at least 2 locations per month and coordinates logistics
- Audio Editing: will listen to recordings and edit them into stories or segments when appropriate
- Audience response: will manage audience response after a program, and reply to listeners' comments, questions or complaints
- Archiving: will archive episode that has been broadcast
- Will keep an updated contact list of all previous and potential guests, including dates they visited La Voz con Mariel Fiori, with links.
- Continued engagement - After the show, will communicate with guests and send links to show and social media posts (so they can continue to re-post), thank them, and ask for other possible Spanish speaking guests
- Will supports and assists in promotion, and outreach, including live events, in conjunction with the Radio Kingston Spanish speaking team
- From time to time may also work in a presenting or reporting role

The ideal Radio Journalist Producer for La Voz con Mariel Fiori possesses the following qualities:
- A strong background in journalism, in particular for radio and digital platforms
- Is exceptionally organized, detailed oriented and meticulous
- Is creative and open to stepping outside of the studio to connect with the community in new ways including live events and recording high quality audio in the field.
- Excellent writing skills for broadcast, social media and web
- A desire and ability to develop a deep knowledge of and passion for the Hudson Valley region, including issues relevant to the Latinx immigrant communities
- Is passionate for community engagement and local storytelling.
- Successfully meets tight deadlines and handles multiple responsibilities under pressure and often independently.
- Can work both in a team setting with host, and independently
- Uses social media and other platforms to promote stories and to engage with the community.
- Is fully bilingual Spanish-English.
Preferred skills
- Familiarity with social media and digital engagement strategies.
- Experience in live broadcasting and remote engineering, or the ability to learn from the Radio Kingston team
- Knowledge of local issues, culture, and demographics.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, or a closely related field AND a minimum of two (2) years of direct, sustained, professional experience in journalism AND/OR an equivalent combination of education and experience in radio journalism, community reporting or solutions journalism.
Working Conditions
Full-time position based in Kingston, NY. Duties are routinely performed Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 am. and 5:00 pm; however, evening and weekend support may be necessary from time to time.
Compensation
- Salary: $60,000/year
