City living reporter
The Louisville Courier Journal is looking for someone who loves to be the authority on what’s hot and what’s not in the retail and restaurant scene, who’s always in the know about what’s coming and going and who is an expert at giving our audience behind-the-scenes looks at their favorite boutiques, bars and retail shops.
The city living reporter is the master of quick-hit stories that help readers navigate life in Louisville. This position isn’t one for a reporter who aims to write enterprise pieces exclusively. This is for a reporter who thrives on breaking news every day, and in this job they will. From big box stores to hideaway cafes, the city living reporter keeps tabs on the city’s favorite establishments with daily online posts, curated for print publication a few times a week.
The city living reporter also must love interacting with readers. A big part of this beat’s success relies on tips from readers, and that is possible only when the reporter is easily reachable and responsive. The reporter deepens the relationship by publishing answers to readers’ questions; responding to emails, tweets and Facebook comments; and hosting occasional Facebook Live sessions and in-person events.
Courier Journal is a 10-time Pulitzer Prize-winning news organization in a metro area known for its internationally recognized chefs and restaurants; vibrant music scene, including the Forecastle music festival; world-class bourbon distilleries; and Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby. The quality of life is sky-high and the cost of living is impressively low.
