Starting Salary
$49,859 - $57,731/annually

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm; some evenings and weekends may be required

Job Summary
Researches, writes, edits and delivers news programming on statewide, regional, national or international assignments.  Exercises advanced and independent editorial and logistical decision making duties, including, but not limited to, editing material produced by remote bureau reporters.   May host news programs and serve as a special assignment reporter.

Essential Functions
80% - Works in the area of KJZZ radio station or its bureaus throughout the United States or international locations, reporting on news issues of interest in a four state region (TX, NM, AZ, NV) employing highest journalist standards for fairness and balance, accuracy, range of perspective and broad journalistic integrity; writes, mixes and files spot and in-depth news stories across multiple media platforms, both on deadline and off.  Equipment used includes studio, field, and transmission equipment and standard office equipment, computer equipped with sound and video editing software and file transfer technology.
10% - Provides context to the news department to foster understanding of background information necessary to advance news stories in the region.
10% - Participates in fundraising activities; attends meetings and/or training; performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
1.  One (1) year experience as a reporter/editor for a newspaper, magazine, web site, or a broadcast station
2.  Excellent written skills as demonstrated through a cover letter and resume to be attached to the MCCCD application

Desired Qualifications
1.  Proficient in Spanish, highly preferred
2.  Journalistic experience at a public radio or television facility
3.  Experience working in news content areas relevant to the desert southwest
4.  Two (2) or more years of regional reporting experience
5.  Excellent editing skills as demonstrated through a portfolio containing recent examples of work in any media format submitted by 5 pm of the application deadline to the  Rio Salado College / Human Resources Office.  (Address listed in the Job Summary Section)

Special Working Conditions
Must be able to work non-standard irregular hours; carry remote broadcast equipment; travel is required. This positon is based in the KJZZ Downtown Phoenix Bureau, which is co-located with Rio Salado College at 619 N. 7th Ave. Phoenix, AZ  85007.
